The new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center consolidated the existing Walter Reed Army Hospital and the Bethesda Naval Hospital and serves military personnel who have experienced a life-changing, agonizing injury while serving our country and protecting our freedoms. Foodservice Consultants Studio designed the dining facility for Building 62, which houses wounded warriors from the four military branches.

The dining facility is designed to prepare & serve 1,5000 meals per day, meeting the residents total daily meal requirements, as well as serving their guests and facility employees. The servery design evokes an upscale and warm feel that more closely resembles a foodervice facility found at a university or corporate campus rather than a military establishment.

Unique features of this design include refrigeration that is remotely located in the basement and served by a refrigeration rack system mounted in the mechanical room; exhaust hoods that incorporate both UV technology and energy saving controls; and adequate storage located on another level to provide food stores in case of emergency.
